I was happy with my loosey-goosey sketch of that garlic crock the other night, and (apparently) lacking much in the way of creativity, I decided to try it again: this time a little more controlled, and I tried to make the composition a bit more interesting by placing a bit of garlic in front of the crockery.
I stuck with the Cotman paints and waterbrush just for the sake of seeing whether I could keep things from getting too messy.
The main issue I have with this is that I don’t think I got quite enough contrast. This has been an issue that I’ve had from the beginning; though I do feel like I’m slowly improving in that regard.
Absolutely glad that you’re back!
I totally understand the feeling of being away for a while, and you really want to get back on sketching and drawing, but something keeps popping up…which is called “excuse”
I really like the earthy colors of this one, and beautiful tone indeed!
Crackpot draws a crockpot:) You have a special gift.
This is wonderful, Jeff! I love the colors.
This is lovely – worth putting in a frame, don’t you think? I know what you mean about contrast – I often feel that way about the stuff I do. On the other hand, less contrast seems to give a ’soft and gentle’ look that I really like.
Wonderful watercolors! I like both versions of your garlic crock. I like the immediacy of the first and like Margaret mentioned, the softness of the second is lovely.
I think I definitely like this version better! Love your subtle use of shading.
